Greetings from a new Explorer!
This is going to be a VERY long post, so the TL;DR version is- I’m new, need tips, I grasp the basics, I play on Xbox.
So hello there! Brand new explorer here! It’s kept seeing how much NMS has changed since launch, all the updates, etc. So I finally downloaded it on my Xbox and I have to say I’m in love. Let me begin by saying I’ve made it just far enough to make my first jump to a new system (new set of planets, not new console lol) and landed/explored long enough to find a crashed ship. Claimed it, didn’t know what to do with it, or where to go from there since it can’t fly, so I logged out last night and went to bed lol. I’ve only been playing for a few days, so if anyone has any tips starting out, I’d love to hear them! I understand the basics as far as keeping myself alive, refueling, and flying around from planet to planet. I’ve killed a couple random ships while harvesting asteroids (I got stuck in space and it took me almost an hour to reach an asteroid belt for fuel, this is how I figured out the importance of fuel lmfao). Built a small hut with the few beginner things I can craft, learned alloy housing for future base, haven’t crafted or learned much else. I’ve been scanning anything and everything that I’ve come across, and I’m curious if there is an in-game catalog anywhere for creatures found across the galaxy?
So I guess my more direct questions would be as follows. How much do I unlock through story progression? I’d like to get to building a whole base with storage and all that, as well as a bigger ship (I’ve seen people walking around their ships, jumping out into space). Is there anywhere I can store resources? I find myself running out of space very quickly, always having to sell or scrap items. And how much should I focus on the main quest line? Like should I get through it in a timely manner, or is it something that doesn’t really matter?
Anyways, thanks for reading, I’m happy to be here, and maybe I’ll run into somebody some day! With how vast this game is, I feel a random encounter out here would be a pretty cool accomplishment lol
