about the weird route in chapter 4

(weird route spoilers mentioned) I'm an hour into the weird route; the scene at Noelle's house was crazy! but now I'm in the dark world (I just made it to the old man's study) and I'm surprised by how normal it feels so far? I've had to check a walkthrough multiple times to make sure I'm still on the weird route at all... is this normal? does it noticeably pick up and get weirder at some point?
