MIT licence

Hello all, I have a question regarding use of open source code under MIT licence. Company I recently joined is using third party open source code. As most companies do. However, they deleted the Licence.txt file from each and every third party repo they use. The licence (which is more or less the same as in deleted licence.txt) text in every .h and .c file remained intact. While it probably is not a biggie, should the licence.txt be returned or it does not matter? There is an audit comming and everybody is freaking out. Cheers for replies.
