What I experienced today at Ratnapark overbridge will stay with me forever

Today, at Ratnapark overbridge, I met a beggar who changed the way I look at life.

He was sitting quietly, ignored by hundreds of people rushing past. His clothes were torn, his hands trembling his eyes tired. Something inside me made me stop. I gave him a packet of food and a bottle of water. He looked at me for a moment, and then his eyes filled with tears.

He whispered, “Dai malai ta manchhe jasto ko bhav nai diyeko dherai din bhayo" (Brother, it’s been so long since anyone treated me like a human)

I didn’t know what to say. That one sentence hit me harder than anything in my life. We complain about traffic, money, stress, politics but here was a man who just wanted to feel human again.

When I left, my hands were empty, but my heart was heavy. That day I realized poverty is not only about money. The biggest poverty is being unseen, unloved, and forgotten.

Ratnapark overbridge will never look the same to me again. Today, that beggar gave me more than I gave him. He gave me a reminder: be kind, because sometimes even a small smile can save someone’s broken soul.
