Shopify Discount Field - possible to hide?

When looking at the field data for checkout fields across a number of stores the discount code field consistently has the highest abandonment rate (usually accompanied by a high return rate volume).

It seems like customers are hopping off to try and find a code before abandoning in frustration when they can't. I'm convinced this is costing us business.

Is there a way where we can hide the discount code field on Extensibility? I don't want to get rid of it completely for legitimate codes, just make it less prominent.
