Sword and spear

First time posting here.

I am in art school and have just been approved for an independent study in my schools metal shop. I plan to make a sword and a spear. The sword will be made using more modern techniques. The pieces will be cut out of flat sheet and assembled using stacking and interlocking, held together by welding and pinning. The spear will be forged and use more ancient techniques.

I plan to make them at least mostly historically accurate so I have been doing research on both swords and spears. I am thinking of making an arming sword but am having trouble finding the right spear type to base my design off of. I’m trying to stick to European designs as I am ethnically European and wouldn’t want to co-opt any other culture’s history.

According to my research, many types of spears seem to exceed 2 meters in length and I don’t want to make a spear that big for logistical and cost reasons. I want the spear to be dramatic and look cool but not over 2 meters. I was hoping for advice from more knowledgeable people on what kind of spear to make and any other advice you might have.
