Saying "move out" to someone without nuance feels antagonistic.

Yeah. My Dad feels like he has me right where he wants me, I'm a grown man but he brutalized me my whole life, ganged up on me with my other siblings. Simply saying "move out" then is not only patronizing, but antagonistic because not everyone has the same set of circumstances. It's not the same as a suggestion with nuance.

Then if you say "I moved out" maybe your circumstances were much easier. Or maybe they weren't. Point being, is it's not for anyone to say the nuances of someone's situation. But I do think we need to be careful if we don't want to replicate the patterns of our parents, otherwise we're just hypocrites. I think we need to be supportive and listen to what the other person is saying so we have a better chance at helping them.
