Sea swimming -- safe?

Just moved to the area and trying to get a handle on sea swimming.

Bispham currently has a "Good" rating, and the gov.uk site says "No pollution warnings today", but the vibe I’m getting is that people around here mostly avoid swimming altogether because of pollution or sewage concerns.

Is that just outdated info or still a real issue on the Fylde Coast? Should I just rule it out completely, or are there certain times/places where it's safe and reasonable?
