Is it bad that I want to find a new church?
I grew up baptist, went to an all girls catholics high school, and my family and I have been attending a non-demoninational church for the last 10ish years. I feel like I'm entering a new season in my life, and I want to be closer to God. Strangly, it's hard for me to visualize God at my current church. And I'm just starting to feel like the semons are becoming repetitive: "Get right with God", "He's always there for you", "Leave your vices and give them to God". The pastor has also mentioned lukewarm relationships with God all summer, and I feel like at this church I cant really get a deeper relationship. I never leave church pondering about what I did last week and how it's applicable to the sermon. It's more like "great got that off my list today." I'm never excited for church the way I used to be.
Since I went to catholic school, I loved the idea of challenging and understanding my belief in God, knowing the history of the church and understanding theology. At my non-demonational church, there's just not much history of why the church is standing, the doctrine of the church, and why the pastor is there. It just feels more human centered than God centered. That's alright, it's just not what I want. It feels more like a movie theater/mega church production versus a place of God where I can be at awe. My favorite thing about my old bapist church and the catholic school chapel was the stained glass, the smell of insense, and the stations of the cross. There were just so many reminders of God and why you're actually there. Not to hear someone who was inspired someone speak, but to actually celebrate God.
Am I wrong for not adapting myself to my church? Do I actively need to attempt to focus and enjoy my church? How do I go about finding a new church? Would I have to be re-baptized?
