Two very different paths in relationships

I’ve been reflecting on how differently relationships can unfold depending on how we approach them.

Path 1 is built around short term pleasure. It avoids confrontation, avoids discomfort, avoids full truth, and hides behind masks or blame. It feels good in the moment but it rarely lasts. Over time, it usually leaves both people feeling more empty and carrying consequences that could have been avoided.

Path 2 is built around long term peace. It embraces confrontation, has the difficult conversations, speaks the full truth even when it is ugly, takes responsibility, expresses vulnerability, and welcomes change. It can be uncomfortable, especially in the beginning, but over time it builds stability, depth, and trust that lasts.

It made me realize how many of us are stuck chasing the first path while secretly craving the second. So my question is, what does long term peace actually look like to you in a relationship? And if you have been on both paths before, what helped you move from one to the other?
