Soul Master question

Hii! first time player. I’ve made it to city of tears, and I’ve basically done everything here, I assume. I’m trying to defeat Soul Master but I just don’t feel strong enough, his second phase is too overwhelming, not to mention the run back is abysmal.

I haven’t explored fog canyon yet, and I was trying to explore the water ways but I need the ass pounding spell to reach the first bench.

I’ve upgraded my nail once and I have 6 masks. Is there something else I should be doing or do I just need to bite the bullet and git gud?
