Recent Career Progression

Hi all!

This is my first post here.

5 years ago, I started working at a bank as a teller as my first job ever. Moved up quite quickly and I ended up in a position where I was doing mutual funds. I enjoyed the job immensely for a few years, but then I learned that I have colleagues of the same position that made at least $3.50 to $4 per hour more than me. I then decided that it was time for me to switch roles, so I tried to apply for a more specialized position in the investments department. However, the two openings that were available were quickly filled before I can apply (would’ve been a nice $10K pay increase too had I gotten one of those positions).

This led me to look at other banks. I got interviewed by two of them for the position that I wanted at my old bank and they both offered me a $15K annual pay increase PLUS commissions! Also, I don’t even have to take transit at all to get to work now since it’s within walking distance.

TLDR: I learned that it might not be a bad idea to look for other opportunities in the finance industry every 2-3 years.

Edit: transit
