When we talk about beauty brands in India, one name that has stood tall for decades is Lakmé. But behind this iconic name lies a story that is as graceful as the brand itself.

Lakmé was founded by J.R.D. Tata, one of India's greatest visionaries, at a time when Indian women heavily relied on imported cosmetics. Tata recognized the need for a homegrown brand that would celebrate Indian beauty while reducing dependence on foreign products. And thus, Lakmé was born a brand that blended elegance, trust, and accessibility.

The name Lakmé itself carries a deeper cultural significance. It is derived from Lakshmi, the revered Hindu Goddess of beauty, wealth, and prosperity. Interestingly, in French, Lakshmi is pronounced as Lakmé - a choice that gave the brand an international yet deeply Indian identity.
