What would a David Fincher war movie look like?
This idea came to me when going through Wikipedia's list of Fincher's undeveloped projects and finding two war movies among them: Squids, a Cold War submarine movie written by David Ayer (though Ayer himself said the script "sucked"), and They Fought Alone, a World War II biopic about Col. Wendell Fertig whose most recent draft had been written by Robert Towne.
It got me wondering what people could imagine him doing for a war movie (discounting the World War II scenes in Benjamin Button, of course). What would be the narrative, themes, tone, cast, etc.? Or, could he even revive the two ideas listed above?
