What kind of parent Bertha is ?

I watched episode 3 and why Bertha doesn’t care about the happiness of her own children ? Seeing gladys crying in that room with the duke had me in tears, she’s not ready for what’s coming for her… And all of this just for her sake to become the highest person in the society ? And terribly disappointed by George, because Gladys is her baby, why you don’t stand against your wife to save your daughter. I am exhausted 😩
