Nail trimming anxiety
My dog is a two year old, female ,red fox labrador retriever. I’ve had her since she was a puppy and she has always had issues with nail maintenance. We used to use clippers and she would do okay, after a session where someone (not me) hit her quick, she won’t let anyone holding clippers within 5 feet of her. She is incredibly strong and it is impossible to cut her nails this way and I have tried multiple times but gave it up because It stresses her out so much.( I have tried positive reinforcement and distraction, neither have had any affect) I highly doubt she would let me near her with a nail dremel either due to the noise. I have resorted to filing them with sandpaper by hand or using a sandpaper scratchpad. I am very vigilant about keeping her nails at a proper length so it is not a problem of upkeep or maintenance. I really don’t mind doing it and it is nice to spend time with her in that way. Does anyone else do this with their dogs? If so any tips?
