Hotwife Kink Theory

So I was reading a book recently related to biology and evolution. The author suggested that men are interested in attractive women because certain attractive visual cues indicate fertility potential. Men also desire women who other men desire to attain status by having a coveted "commodity". By obtaining such a status symbol or "trophy wife" or desirable partner and increasing his status he thereby increases his power and level of respect. That increased power than increases his mating options.

Does the hotwife kink stem from a desire to have other men covet or desire our wives? The book suggested that a promiscuous wife would need more time and attention expended by the male to "mate guard" which is not a good use of time. It also suggested that men were mostly interested in fidelity to ensure paternity. With the rise of modern birth control techniques are men adapting to realize they can ensure status without having to worry about paternity?

The book also suggested that some primate males of status will share their mates with other males to help keep their status. However they guard their mates more strongly during the fertility window.
