Boss berated past employees until they left, starting with me now that new hires are here.

I can't believe I did not realize what situation I was in before it got to this point.

I started working in an environment where my boss was often boasting about himself, always telling stories and always finding ways to relate back to him. At first I naively thought he was just building rapport. Then I realized many of the stories he would tell was about a coworker he had connection with through family. He was speaking about that person's living situation and those they lived with. I noticed that coworker start to pull away before ultimately leaving. Then he would berate the other employee, another guy he would say to his face wasn't a man, and blame his life situations on his poor character as a man. Understandably he left. I was the sole other employee alongside my boss for 2 months, no urgency to fill the spots. During this time I can never be sure what energy I'm waking into. Whether another department frustrated him, his family matters or just things that shouldn't cause a 0-1,000 reaction, I am never sure what energy I'm going to be working with. Then the new year comes and he hires 3 new hires, coincidentally one of them is also someone he has some connection to outside of work.

I immediately notice negative treatment from him, meetings that we're indirectly directed at me for things he never properly directed me on. And when I first started I was consistently asking on a weekly basis how I was performing and what I needed to work on and improve. There was nothing ever said which I now think is because he just wanted to exploit me because we had no other employees, as I was told when the new hires were found I would be supervisor.

I walk in after using the restroom to him joking about me to the new hires, building rapport with them at my expense. Then things started to click. Two of the new hires had asked me questions about their duties and both questioned if they made a bad call. Both of them, I shit you not, both of them said something along the lines of " oh no, did I do this wrong, what do I do? Just blame you? Hahaha just kidding."

I stopped being vocal, simply do my job and leave. There's more indirect conversations and comments made during meetings and just in front of me while working. I had a family emergency that kept me from being able to come in one day. The response? Cutting my hours; retaliation.

Now my coworkers feel justified trying to nitpick behind me and question my actions and intentions. My pay rate review is less than a week away so this also feels pre meditated as hell.

What would you do in this situation? Any advice is appreciated.
