Announcing our pregnancy - in law competition
I am hoping for some advice here. I am about 7 weeks pregnant and have been trying to get pregnant for about 6 months. We are very excited. We can’t wait to tell my in-laws and then this weekend my brother and sister in law had a party to announce that they are 5 weeks. It seems a little early but who am I to say.
For context: the two of them were engaged for 9 years…. Always said they didnt know if marriage was for them….and decided to announce their wedding 5 weeks after we got engaged before we told the rest of the extended family. It was a big drama how they went about it. Their wedding was 2 months before us.
It seems like this awful cosmic pattern. I am really sad because I don’t want to share my pregnancy with her and I know the family will compare us. I wish there could be a little separation because I have worked so hard to create a boundary from them.
I still feel like I want to wait until I get an ultrasound from the doctor but now there is this urgency. I don’t want to compete for love…. That not me. Should I still wait or just say “we are pregnant too”?
Part of me just wants them to have this because its my first pregnancy and I feel protective about it. Thanks for any help
Edit: I should also mention my husband and his brother have had a longstanding rivalry that his parents unknowingly created. My husband is “the good” one who always has done the right thing (kind of to a fault) and his older brother is kind of a narcissist and I dont say that lightly.
