Protect Women and Girls in NB: Remove Anti-Abortion Billboard in Miramichi & Create Bubble-Zone Protections
New Brunswick is the only province in Canada without bubble-zone protections around reproductive health facilities. This leaves women, girls, and gender-diverse people vulnerable to harassment, intimidation, and stigmatizing public messaging.
Right now in Miramichi, a Right to Life group has installed an anti-abortion billboard and is holding roadside demonstrations. These actions spread harmful misinformation, traumatize survivors, stigmatize young people, and threaten safe access to essential healthcare.
Other provinces—including BC, Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland & Labrador—have enacted laws that protect people seeking abortion care from harassment and intimidation. New Brunswick must not continue to lag behind.
We, the undersigned, call on Susan Holt and the New Brunswick Liberal Party to:
- Support legislation to establish bubble zones around reproductive healthcare facilities in NB, ensuring patients and providers are free from harassment and intimidation.
- Take immediate steps to remove the anti-abortion billboard in Miramichi under advertising standards and local bylaw regulations.
- Affirm the right to safe, stigma-free reproductive healthcare as a matter of equality, dignity, and human rights in New Brunswick.
Women and girls in this province deserve the same protections as every other Canadian. It’s time for NB to act.
