Suggestion: Please use US$ prices or say your currency in the Title when posting about pricing

A "modest proposal" but hear me out please...

I'm noticing that in basically every price discussion where a currency other than USD is being used, even if the person says in their comment or it shows in their pics that some other currency is being used, half the comments are basically "that's way too expensive, a new Corolla is like $25k" - in other words, the person clearly misunderstood that some other currency was involved.

This is not an "Americans are stupid" problem, there's actually several factors behind these misunderstandings:

  • Probably 80% of the people here are Americans

  • Americans do not grow up in a reality where one of their economic trading partners is 10x their economic size

  • Most people in any other country besides US and China do, so you know your currency, you know US Dollars, and you probably know the current exchange rate

  • Banner ads have rewired our brains to filter out a ton of info, even when it is right in front of us, like visual cues that the price we're looking at is actually in a different currency than our usual one

  • Social media has further rewired our brains to skim and react quickly

Here's an example from earlier today:

Sure, that's a lot of potential clues that the price is in a certain currency, but despite how many there are, surely you can see how easy it could be to miss all of them. Now, compare the above graphic with this - see how much more noticeable and actionable the first big red box is:
