Why do cats love knocking stuff off tables? Is it play or just instinct?

I’ve got two cats, Ginger and Vaca, and I swear they’ve made it their mission to push everything I own onto the floor. Ginger will literally look me dead in the eye before giving a little paw-swipe, like she knows exactly what she’s doing. Vaca isn’t as sneaky — he just jumps up and sends whatever’s there flying.

I always wonder… do cats actually enjoy doing this, or is it just some weird instinct? Is it their way of playing, hunting practice, or are they just tiny agents of chaos?
