The real North/South divide, sparkler or no sparkler for your real ale?

Have found myself south of the border of my northern home town and having come out for a few pints of real ale realised how much I miss the northern pour with a sparkler. These was made more apparent after sampling a pint of Landlord southern style.

Anybody have a particular preference or care that much?

I understand certain beers suit a certain type but never realised how much of a difference it can make.
