My mom made my life a living hell for loving someone. Now I might have cancer and I want to cut her off for life.
I’ve been carrying this for years and I just need to get it off my chest. If you’ve ever had a toxic parent, you might understand how trapped and broken it can make you feel.
When I was 15, I secretly started dating a guy who was 19. I know the age gap isn’t ideal, but we truly loved each other. We kept it hidden because in my culture, dating before marriage is strictly forbidden — especially for girls. If your family finds out, you're shamed, punished, and even disowned. So we stayed quiet. We saw each other in secret for almost a year.
Then things started to fall apart.
My mom had an unrelated fight with his family, and from that moment on, she hated them — especially him. She didn’t know we were dating at that time. But at the end of 2020, he got drunk and called her, saying he loved me and wanted to marry me. That’s how she found out.
From that day, my life became hell. She spread lies about me to our relatives and community — telling people I was obsessed with him, crazy, possessed. I had just turned 18, and he was 22. Still young, still in love, but suddenly I was branded a whore by my own mother.
She forced us to break up.
I didn’t fight back. I was scared. In my culture, a girl’s worth is tied to her "purity." The things she accused me of — like being pregnant, no longer a virgin, being "used" — they crushed my spirit. She even told people my boyfriend raped me, which is a complete lie. I never even told her anything private, yet she used my silence to make up the worst.
I stayed quiet. I always stay quiet. I’m not someone who talks a lot or causes problems. But nothing I did was ever enough to make the hate stop.
In 2025, after years apart, my boyfriend came back. He said he still loved me and wanted to be with me. And I still loved him too. So we got back together — quietly, just for us. After 6 months of secretly dating again, I posted a picture of us on my Snapchat story.
My little brother saw it and showed my mom.
That night, she didn’t sleep. The next morning, she woke me up screaming. She said I was pregnant. She said he raped me. She said I was disgusting, a disgrace, and unclean. She told me I’m not her daughter anymore. She stood at my bedroom door for hours just screaming at me. My brother joined her and tried to fight me. Another brother stood up for me, and it turned into a physical fight — me and my mom hit each other. I’ve never hit her before in my life.
Since that day, I’ve had no peace. She calls me a whore every day. Says I ruined the family. Says she wants me gone. And today? She got mad at one of my brothers for something else, but still came to scream at me. Blamed me again. Told me to leave her house.
But I have nowhere to go.
And tomorrow, I’m going to the doctor. There’s a real chance I might have breast cancer. I’m terrified. But the worst part is — my mom doesn’t even care. She told me that if I die, she won’t miss me. She said she wants nothing to do with me, and that she hopes I disappear.
So you know what?
If it turns out I have cancer, I’m moving out. I’ll hire a lawyer. I’ll make her sign legal documents saying I’m no longer her daughter. I don’t want her in my life. I don’t want her to know where I live, or how I’m doing, or if I’m dead or alive. If I die, I don’t want her at my funeral. I don’t even want my siblings there unless they truly loved me.
I’m done trying to earn love from someone who only gives me pain.
The only people who make me feel like I matter are my boyfriend and my best friend. They’ve been the reason I haven’t given up. I came so close to ending my life more than once, but I keep thinking of them.
I just want peace.
I just want love.
