Question regarding action / string height on the upper register of a bass.
How come some basses (I only play bass so I'm using this as an example) have strings that noticeably feel higher past the 12th fret?
For example, I set up my basses exactly the same. Same relief, action, etc. On my custom jazz bass, the string height is noticeably higher past the 12th fret than my schecter even with the same action.. I heavily prefer the schecter type feel on the higher register and wondering if there's anything I could do to adjust that on my jazz bass.
The custom jazz bass has a 12" radius - not 9.5 for clarity. Similar flatness as my schecter. Is this a neck angle issue that I could address with a shim? That's my only guess. the frets are all level, as is the fretboard.
Thank you!
