29F Urgency of seeing my main opthamologist one month after vitrectomy with new dilation issue/pain?
I experienced a retinal detachment in early March and had a buckle implant placed behind my eye. It ended up detaching again a month later and I had a vitrectomy. This was a month ago. The gas bubble has dissolved and everything was going well, the redness was fading, the pain wasnt too bad and my eye was looking good. 3 weeks post op (which was about two weeks ago now) my boyfriend accidentally slammed his skull into my injured eye while we were sleeping.
It immediately started hurting and when I looked in the mirror my eye was dilated to the point where it was almost completely covering the colored/hazel part of my iris. The next day I went and saw the eye urgent at my hospital. Four opthamologists looked at me, not my main surgeon but one of them was a surgeon who I've also worked with, and none of them were sure why my pupil was like that. They gave me a steroid drop for the pain and told me it was unexplained mydriasis or something and that maybe I just got something in my eye and that it probably wasn't from my eye getting banged even though it started immediately after that happened.
They asked me to update them In a few days through the online portal. I did and said it still hurts and was dilated. It's been almost two weeks since I sent that message and I just finally heard back from someone. I can only be seen by my main opthamologist but he's only available in an extremely far location that I can't get to since I don't drive, and not the close location to my house for another few weeks.
Basically, I'm trying to figure out how urgently I need to go in. I haven't heard from them in two weeks and nothing has been changing, it's consistently somewhat painful and the eye is just as dilated. I'm wondering if it's safe to wait until my next appointment that is nearby which is on the 19th, or if I'm putting my health at risk. I just think if it was urgent they would have called me back way sooner than now?
I just don't wanna risk anything but I can't really get there 😭 sorry for the long question but if anyone has any reassurance or something that would help a lot
