Bree breaking up with Chuck

I'm doing a rewatch for the umpteenth time. I'm at thr beginning few episodes of season 8. Do you think the ladies were right in telling Bree to break up with Chuck?

I think breaking up with Chuck was a big disadvantage for them. Like he said when they broke up, he would have done anything to protect her. I also feel that he could have helped him during the initial incident and no one would have gotten in trouble, but then again we needed a storyline for the season. I think if Bree went running to Chuck and said her and the girls saw the incident happen, he would have helped them and make sure no one got in trouble. They could have done what they did with Katherine and her ex husband. If they all agreed they saw the same thing, would the police really second guessed them? Especially if Chuck, a homicide detective was there with them
