Please help me choose a guitar

Hi everyone I want to learn electric guitar and am trying to choose my first one. I keep reading that I should go to a store and test them to see how they feel and sound. The only problem with that is I don’t know how they should feel and don’t know any chords to make sound. Eventually I want to play covers of songs from bands like Greenday, Audioslave, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Weezer among others. With that being said what would you recommend as a guitar to start with? Thank you for your help!
