Reviving a laptop

Hi there! I’m going to revive an old laptop for my parents. It’s a Sony Vaio SVE151J11M. It’s running win 8.1 and it have a hdd and 4 gb of ram.

Actually it goes really slow. It’s even impossible to move the files I need to get out so I’m going to use an external sata reader and do it on mine. I’m gonna put a ssd sata and 8 gb of ram so they can use it for really simple stuff. Do you guys think it may work?
