AITA for correcting my mum in front of somebody

So I was in a jewellery shop with my mum and she said “apparisce” instead of “appears” while talking about my earrings (an English equivalent would be appearaces instead of appears) close to the owner and so I whispered “it’s appears” because I couldn’t help myself. Her face and responses and vibe completely switched and the owner could feel the vibe kill.

We then left the shop and I asked her “what’s on your mind” and she told me she was just tired, but once we were about to be home she told me almost screaming to never correct her again because I made her seem so stupid to the owner and I did it so that I could feel superior next to her, and she went on for minutes.

I apologised as soon as I could and said that I would’ve never done it again and I just did it automatically and not to be mean and snappy or feel superior. She then started with her usual speech on how I prefer my aunt and I would’ve never corrected my aunt (which she knows to be not true, but she hates her) and then she started playing the victim and saying how she has endured more than what I was exposing to her. I told her to quit it because she always says the same things.

But we come from a culture where apologies aren’t real or heartfelt (I’ve only learnt the power of apologies by living abroad), so I hugged her in the lift but she didn’t hug me back, she would just stand there silent and mad.

I feel genuinely so sorry and I don’t want it to ruin her day but at the same time she always just takes any opportunity to traumadump. AITA?
