Picked up six cases of beer today.
My job occasionally involves hosting events at my office, and a local brewery donated six cases of beer to us for an event we have tomorrow night. I drove out to the brewery today and picked it up.
I'm their only point of contact for this, and they initially told us they'd give us four cases. If this was me just over two weeks ago, those two extra cases would be coming home with me since no one at work would know the difference. Instead, I brought all the beer inside and let my coworkers know they can take whatever's left over after tomorrow's event.
Making the "right" decision has been tough the last few days. Yesterday was my birthday, and the day before was the anniversary of the death of one of my cats. My partner didn't really do anything for my birthday, just picked up some dinner on the way home. I could tell she had been drinking as well, which honestly soured my mood a bit. I spent my evening on the couch reading.
Every part of me wanted to go pick up some beer and feel a bit better, but I thought about today and how I'd feel. I'd be disappointed in myself and feel like the last two weeks were a waste. And if I drank last night, there's a 100% chance I'd be drinking at our event tomorrow, and if I drink tomorrow, there's a decent chance I drink too much and come off as unprofessional (or worse).
Giving myself a pat on the back for getting through last night without any alcohol, and for not thinking twice about the extra beer I could have had without anyone knowing any better. Now, focusing my efforts on not drinking today.
