Does refusing pap smear affect insurance?

Last year at my gynecologist visit I was told I needed to have a pap smear. When I tried to refuse, the doctor (not the staff) claimed my insurance would no longer cover the visit and I'd have to pay out of pocket, which I couldn't afford at the time, so I had it done. The pap smear was incredibly traumatic to me—it was very painful and the doctor was impatient and kept pushing me. They also tried to bill me because of something they found in the unwanted pap smear, and I told them I wouldn't be paying it. I understand the importance of pap smears, but there's no way I would ever do this again until I have built trust with my doctor. I recently moved two years ago and it's been a struggle to find a good gynecologist. My annual is coming up later this month, and I want to know if I can refuse a pap smear and still have my insurance cover it. Prior to last year, I had never had a pap smear and it was always covered.
