So I ruined my mother's potential marriage with my grandfather

family feud

First of all: not a native speaker so please forgive any mistakes.

This story happened years ago so I think it's time to share the drama.

My father died years ago. Since my father screwed my mother over badly we had absolutely zero money for years, literally living on social support since my mother could not go to work through to a heavy depression. At the same time, it is important to mention that my mother married my father - she pretty much said so years later - because she thought he was rich. He wasn't. You know those guys that have that awesome job and car and house and whatever but all the money is spent keeping up that lifestyle, and probably even more money than they earn? That.

My mother went for it though and so my brother and me came into existence, securing her situation as his wife, so to speak.

So, years later my mother was better, mentally and financially, but especially financially the situation was still tough. My father left her with A LOT of dept. We're talking around 500.000€.

What you also need to know is that my maternal grandparents have money. They're not filthy rich but theycan have a comfortable life. Good for them. Due to my mother's financial situation she is not in the testament though - she wouldn't get the money probably anyway because it most likely would be seized - but my brother and I are. We were both in our twenties at this point, I was still at uni but it was clear that we wouldn't NEED the money due to our careers. Also, if my mother's history taught me anything, it's that you don't do everything for money. It's not worth it. Money IS nice but it's by far not the most important thing in life.

Then my grandmother died and left behind my grandfather. My grandfather - not biological, but my mother's stepfather since she was 4 years old - was very lonely and my dear mother saw her opportunity. She started to hit on him, I kit you not. That is really no joke. She started flirting with the man she called "dad". Yes, they're not biologically related but... No...

That went so far - and no, I never asked for details because I really did not want to know, though I don't think they were intimate, but again, I did not ask - that they considered getting married. My grandfather could have a lovely young wife and my mother would get out of her dept. Win/win, right?

My brother for some reason though that this is perfectly normal, I personally did not. I told my mother very clearly that if she goes through with that marriage I will not attend the wedding. Under no circumstances would I go to that wedding. Ever.

This made my grandfather think. He asked me if it is about the money because then my brother and me would not inherit the same amount once he passes away. I told him no, it's not. And it really isn't. I already secured myself a very well-paying job after uni, my brother had a well-paying job as well, we were already starting to support our mother so we really don't NEED that money. Getting and inheritance eventually would be nice, yes, but not a necessity. Far from it. It's also fine if he wants to get married again, also my mother should get married again if she wants to but maybe NOT TO EACH OTHER! I mean, "Hey, my mother is marrying her stepfather" is not a sentence I wanted to say ever. I'm sorry but no.

So end of the story, they did not get married - thank god. Instead my mother got a small portion from my grandfather's money according to the now changed testament but she was pissed with me for years because I ruined her "big chance".

So, here is that piece of family drama. Enjoy.
