Safe affordable hotel/ area to stay on way home to Chattanooga?

My husband and I will be traveling home through Birmingham to Chattanooga this weekend late at night and have decided we’ll be stopping around Birmingham just for the night to rest. Considering we’re taking i59, what’s a good, safe area/ hotel to stay in that general NE direction? Affordable, nothing fancy… just clean and maybe free breakfast? 😅

I think I read trussville might be a good area? Would appreciate any suggestions! TIA
