A few months ago I lost a bag containing my entire collection of pens and inks. I was devastated and I didn’t have the hear to replace anything for a while until I started thinking about the “golden age” of fountain pens and realized that you can get old pens refurbished from that time for not that much money! I have never owned a vintage pen or even a gold nib before so this is a whole new adventure for me.

So here it is! I couldn’t be happier with the colors and condition that this pen is in. Especially the gold filled cap with the diamond gem on the clip. I picked it up for about $100 on eBay and didn’t quite know what I would get but is in great working order. I’m please with how lightweight and sleek this pen is and the slip cap is very satisfying to click into place.

This writing experience is such a departure from what I’m used to. I had a lot of TWSBI and Lamy pens before and never a gold nib. This one is interesting. It feels like a steel nib to me in terms of flex but I think that was typical of the period. On smooth, hard paper it glides well but there’s quite a bit of feedback on anything rougher. It’s a very fine F for me and seems to write a little dry so that may have something to do with it. I’m impressed with how consistent this thing is. Any amount of pressure and it puts down ink no-problem. It never hard-starts and I can even leave the cap off for a while and it still writes right away.

The seller was nice enough to give me a small phial of ink that they said was Pelican Royal Blue that looks nice enough but also seems to be contributing to the dry scratchiness. Anyone have a recommendation for a pretty, blue ink that writes a bit on the wetter side that is also safe for a vintage pen?
