Running 3 Year Average

Question

Hi,

Having trouble with figuring out how to make this work.

I have a summary table with a structure like this:

  • Fiscal Year (date format, usually the first of the year)
  • Fiscal Year (whole number format, 4 digits)
  • Product Category (text)
  • metric 1 (whole number)
  • metric 2 (whole number)
  • metric 3 (whole number)

The table contains future fiscal years with projections as well as past years.

What I want to do is create a new table that will ignore the product category and give me:

  • Fiscal Year
  • Rolling 3 year average of Metric 1
  • Rolling 3 year average of Metric 2
  • Rolling 3 year average of Metric 3

I see suggestions online of using something like:
CALCULATE (
SUM ('Table1'[metric 1)/3,
DATESINPERIOD ( 'Table1'[Fiscal Year], MAX ( 'Table1'[Fiscal Year] ), -3, YEAR ))

but since the table contains future dates the max year in the table goes into the 2060s...

What I really want is the the fiscal year in the current context row to the fiscal year-2, and then I'd repeat that for all 3 metrics.

Whats the best way to go about this?
