Renovating existing deck + adding stairs - what square footage to use for permit?
Hi all, I'm currently in the process of pulling a permit for renovating an existing deck (replacing railing and floorboards with composite) and adding new external stairs (with a small 3 ft by 6 ft landing halfway down) connected to the deck to my property. However, there are some points on it that are unclear that I wanted to ask about if anyone had clarification on.
Firstly, it asks about the total square footage of the alteration/addition, but the info on that entry specifies to include the area of all new space - should enter just the area of the newly added stairs, or I ckude the area of the existing deck as well? There seem to be separate spaces later in the document for square footage of alterations and separately square footage of additions, so I'm not entirely sure what to put into the first spot.
Secondly, there is a line for the square footage per floor if the addition spans multiple floors - do the stairs fit that requirement if they only have the one landing halfway down? If so, how is the square footage per floor calculated in that regard?
Seems like it's a pretty boilerplate request form, which unfortunately means 90% of the informwtiom they request is not relevant to my situation, so there's a LOT to wade through. Any additional advice or suggestions is appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any help! The phone number provided only seems to give a robot that allows button input to access existing permits, not answer questions about the process itself.
