Every month is a battle of pain

:general: Serious Discussion

My daughter is 16 but she’s been struggling with intense period pain since she was 12. Not mild cramps but kind of pains that leave her curled up in bed, pale, sweating, and once she even came close to fainting. Every cycle it’s getting worse. We went to a gynecologist and while she was kind the only real suggestion was to start her on birth control. No ultrasounds, no hormone testing just she’s fine this should help. I know a lot of people use birth control for cycle management but I guess I’m hesitant because she’s still so young and we haven’t even explored what might actually be causing the pain. Is it normal for doctors to skip ultrasounds or hormone checks before jumping to the pill?

I don’t want to ignore medical advice but I also don’t want to mask something that could get worse. what’s stressing me out the most is how quickly this got labeled as normal how is it normal to miss school be in tears every month and not even get a basic scan to check for endometriosis or anything else. I’m not anti birth control at all I just want to feel like we’re making an informed choice not just throwing a pill at the pain and hoping for the best.
