Tips for housing to get you started building NOW
So I'm seeing a lot of posts about the limitations and complications of house building mode and honestly I totally get it, I was disappointed (and still am regarding the insight limits) when I first tried it out because it feels like I literally cannot do anything, but I managed to start building my house after all and it has been a lot of fun for what I could do, here are some things I figured out that you can try now too.
-
Dyeing. It costs a lot of materials to build dye, however I learned that you can buy a bucket of die for 500 astralites, when you click the option to die while holding the object it'll offer you the chance to buy them. Once you dye an object, the dye will be unlocked for all objects of that type. So I dyed a whole room, I just had to dye the corners, the windows and the walls, maybe about 20-some dye, just make sure you unlock it on the right side because it costs for each side... So forget about those flowers and start dyeing. Another tip, once you dye and object, cancel the movement of the object and it will return exactly to where it was before you touched it, but now with the dye.

Astralites. With the insight cap on housing abilities I haven't really been able to make a lot of cash in this game to build something, however I realized we can sell literally anything in our house or inventory to Rosy, so for right now you've got plenty of bushes, flower pots, hanging vines, chimneys (do we need 2?), trees, rocks and excess furniture. The vines hanging from the house alone are worth about 8000 astralites. You can use them to replace the materials you're missing in the crafting menu and speed up crafting, and someday when your abilities are maxed out and you're making cash easily you can buy them back. I also didnt realize until the end of day 2 that the home journal option has a bunch of easy quests to make plenty of astralites.

Building. I use PC so the button is F10, but look on the top right when in build mode to see what button to press for the gear option. Once you're in that menu there's some very useful settings they don't tell you about. For one, it lets you turn off clipping so the object wont bounce off the wall, furniture or house when youre trying to place it, super useful for vines, rocks, walls etc.. There are two pages to this menu, under the structures menu you've got the option to enable snapping (so useful I don't know why this isn't on the in the first place) to snap the walls into place, and I'd recommend to adjust the structure rotation to something lower than 90 since 90 is straight up horrible. Turn off clipping in this menu too so you can place fake windows or decorations with ease.
Anyways I hope this helps, not like ive done a huge about of renovations but i've now customized about 3 rooms in the house, painted one, and did some expansions on the property. Its much more than I expected in 2 days.
