In what might be 2025's most tone-deaf diplomatic move, Putin just invited Zelenskyy to Moscow for "peace talks" while literally overseeing air strikes that killed civilians the same day. This happened during China's massive 80th WWII anniversary military parade where Putin, Xi Jinping, and Kim Jong Un appeared together for the first time - basically forming an authoritarian power trio.

The audacity is staggering:

Putin claims he's "never refused" meetings with Zelenskyy

Ukraine immediately called the Moscow invitation "knowingly unacceptable"

7 neutral countries have offered to host talks, but Putin wants it on his turf

Meanwhile, Russia launched 500+ drones and 24 missiles overnight across Ukraine

What makes this extra concerning: The timing coincides with Trump's growing frustration over stalled peace negotiations. Trump's original September 2 deadline passed, and he's hinting at "consequences" if progress isn't made soon.

Ukraine's Foreign Minister perfectly summed it up: "Putin continues to mess around" while serious peace proposals from neutral countries sit on the table.

The optics couldn't be worse - Putin making peace overtures while standing next to Kim Jong Un at a military parade showcasing hypersonic missiles and laser weapons. It's like offering a handshake while pointing a gun.
