How to become a mechanic?

This is probably gonna sound ridiculous, I’m a 27M and know the bare minimum of car knowledge and care. What are steps I can take to learn more and what are different routes as far as education and career path goes?

Side note: I’ve had horrible car luck my entire life and feel ridiculously stupid and useless when it comes to helping myself with my car. Wanna be a man the people in my life can go to with car troubles!
