Boss setting up meeting before first day

Pretty much the tag, but as a summary: I went through three virtual interviews for a field management position and was offered the job. It starts in a few weeks, but my new supervisor has been intimating they want to meet up prior tonthe first day to "get to know one another." At one point they wanted me to attend a meeting with them about a new technology the company is adopting, then they mentioned lunch. This week they asked me to come meet them at one of the locations I'll be managing. Never had this happen before and want to know if others find this a normal pre first day practice?
