The fuss about Mr. Medina in the series seems so forced

in the series everyone makes such a big deal about Lorelai and Mr. Medina dating. I don't understand why Mr. Medina didn't just go up to the headmaster, clarify that he's dating one of his student's parents and have another teacher take over his class so there is no conflict of interest regarding Rory. End of story, it would have been that simple.

Instead, everybody keeps talking about how "weird" it is and when Paris caught Lorelai and Mr. Medina kissing at school, Rory felt humiliated and it was made up to be the next big scandal? I think in reality no one would really care about it? Especially when Mr. Medina is considered to be an attractive and very well liked teacher among the students. There is no reason for Rory to feel ashamed that her mom is dating a teacher.
