How do I view this?

Before my partner and I started dating, they sent me a video of people dancing with a caption expressing admiration.

After we started dating, I remembered the video and my thoughts started to spiral. I started feeling like maybe I was just an exception, since the people in the video were of a different background and ethnicity than me.

I asked my partner about it. They initially said they liked those types of people in the past but that “types change.” When they saw how insecure it made me and how much it hurt me, they said it was a misunderstanding. They explained that the initial “yes” they gave was because they thought I had already made up my mind, and that they never actually had a type or eyes for those people.

How should I view the switch-up?
