Struggling to find friends in Chennai as a Malayali student anyone else feel this way?

I had posted earlier when I first started my Master’s in Chennai, saying that I was feeling lonely after just two days of classes. Now it’s been a month, and I still feel the same. Every day I end up sitting with different people, but I don’t have even one regular friend. At first, I thought maybe using my phone too much was stopping me from making connections, but even after trying to stay off my phone, I still don’t really connect with anyone.In my class, the people who talk to me one day don’t usually sit with me or talk to me the next day. I’m really struggling without even one close friend. I’ve started to feel like maybe people are not comfortable talking with me in English because I’m Malayali, while most of my classmates are from Chennai.

Does anyone else studying in Chennai feel this way that Tamil people don’t like to talk with students from other states? My class also feels full of groupism, and it’s hard to break into those groups.
