No docs, no team, all work… should I stay or switch as a fresher?

Career

So, I recently joined this 7-year-old “still a startup” type of company. It’s basically a small software development office with just 5 people—2 are the partners, and 1 is their relative.

I had to take this job because of the current IT job market situation. I’ve been here for about 5 months now, and currently I’m handling 2 backend projects for Android and 2 full-stack web projects (which use the same API as Android, so I’m not sure if that even counts as separate).

The thing is, I work around 7 hours a day. The person managing me doesn’t really know much about programming—he’s good with logic and calculations, but when I joined, there was literally no documentation, no project flow, nothing. They just told me: “Do it freely in your own way.”

Now that I’ve been working on it, some things naturally get complex, so I try to solve them properly with clean code and flow. But then they say things like, “You made it so complex,”—not in a scolding way, but still, why say that if I was asked to figure things out on my own?

Sometimes they act cool, like telling me not to stay late and to leave early if I want. Other times, they make it sound like I’m messing things up, even when I know I’m doing it right. So it’s kind of a love–hate situation: I like the freedom, the 7-hour workday, and the learning opportunity, but the lack of clarity and feedback makes it frustrating.

As a fresher, I’m learning a lot (thank God for ChatGPT), but there’s no proper team to test or review the applications. I’m not sure if I should stick it out for another 7 months to complete 1 year and get that “1-year experience” tag, or just start looking for something new right away. The market situation makes it even harder to decide.

For context, I’m currently working with ASP.NET Core / non-Core full-stack structure. So if anyone has career guidance around that, it would also be appreciated.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? What would you suggest?
