Hangouts in multi-player?

About 50 hours into my solo game and in love. This weekend, my partner and I are going to start multi-player and I'm curious about hangouts. Doing one causes two hours to pass so are they still available in multi-player? Does it skip time? Does one person have to hang out?

Has anyone done a multi-player hangout yet?
