I was raised by a loving mom who carried our family while my dad worked nonstop. There wasn’t much of a father figure, and by 18 I was hooked on pain pills. When my parents divorced, we lost our house. Churches—Catholic and Baptist—kept us in motels for a while, and I got good at finding charities to help. But I was still using, and when the help ran out, we were homeless. We started a “tent city” with 20 people on a hill—seven tents, a generator, trying to survive. Then jealousy and bad company caught up with me; I got set up by a task force and the charges started stacking.

I’d already been to five rehabs—drug court, short programs, even Christian ones—but I kept failing drug tests and catching possession charges. My PO finally said: **RSAT for 9 months or 18 months at A Better Way**. My plan was to get in and run… but that fantasy died fast.

My first day at **A Better Way Ministries**, Brother Richard drove me to the cafeteria right at dinner. They prayed me in—hands on my shoulders—and I thought, *what did I just walk into?* I’d sobered up in jail, so I felt everything. The next morning was shock: no talking before 8, bed made tight, shirt tucked—“robot mode.” It was jarring… but the structure started saving my life.

What changed me most was **Brotherhood**. God kept my closest friends moving with me from house to house and even onto the same work detail. They taught me the Word, worship, and how to be honest. I’d never listened to Christian music, but one day “Breathe” by Hillsong hit my soul and I found myself at the altar. Those were some of my best moments—God meeting me in songs and scriptures I’d never cared about.

Our **Florida trip** was perfect timing with the perfect group. Morning devotions on the beach, riding bikes, laughing sober, and then baptism in the ocean. Brother John gave us freedom with respect and set the tone for a trip I’ll never forget. Getting baptized with my brothers sealed it: the old life left in the water; I came up new.

Since then, I’ve watched God move—not just in me but in my family. My mom, who never talked about Jesus, now prays and sees answers. I keep a daily devotion, pray often, and choose the right thing even when no one’s watching. I want to be a steady, godly man—my kind of godly—with the Holy Spirit’s help.

**A Better Way Ministries** took me from tents, charges, and running to **structure, brotherhood, worship, and hope**. I came planning to bolt. I’m leaving baptized, accountable, and free.
