I Can't Use the Widescreen Patch when Opening nds games with NDSforwarder, any solutions?

I have downloaded the widescreen patch for twilight menu++ however, the widescreen doesn't work when I try to run the games with a forwarder. I am aware that if you hold Y while opening a game with a forwarder it should bring up a menu to enable widescreen however, this menu doesn't come up no matter how many times I try, does anyone know any solutions?
