I don't know what to think of this

Before my partner and I started dating, they sent me a video of Asian girls dancing with the caption “I love Asians.”

After we started dating, I remembered the video and my thoughts started to spiral. For context, I’m white, and I started feeling like maybe I was just an exception.

I asked my partner about it. They initially said they liked Asian people in the past but that “types change.” When they saw how insecure it made me and how much it hurt me, they said it was a misunderstanding. They explained that the initial “yes” they gave was because they thought I had already made up my mind, and that they never actually had a type or eyes for those people. And that the words they said towards them were never meant in attraction.

I’m confused about how to interpret the switch up.
